Planning - Don’t Judge a Book by Its Cover

I hope y'all enjoyed this first short story. It was a little easier to write because it is a memory. Not a direct memory of course, as I changed student names and "Tina" and her friends weren't the ones to bring me The Martian, nor was it the next day. However, students did start asking for my opinion on books and bringing me the best first lines they could find. It was a month or so before a student brought me The Martian. When they did I didn't even have to open it, I just agreed, and handed the book back to them. You see, The Martian is my favorite first line of a book. It sets the tone for the entire book: "I'm pretty much fucked."

For this session I wrote for an hour and got to standing outside my classroom door. I took that as my cue to quickly wrap up the story and didn't go back to edit. I think that's how I will treat this going forward. Set an hour aside, roll the dice, and just write. If there is any story I feel I need to continue longer than that hour, it will be continued in the next post.
